Personal Introduction

Welcome! My name is John Roselle, SJ, and I took lifelong ("perpetual") vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience as a Jesuit on August 13th, 2011 after a two-year novitiate. I am now a Jesuit Scholastic for the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus. I will study philosophy and theology for the next three years at Loyola University in Chicago. At the same time, I will do part-time ministry in some capacity with the poor. After that, I will likely teach for three years before finishing three more years of theology. Then, God willing, I will be ordained a Roman Catholic Jesuit priest! It's a long road, but a blessed, fun, and enriching one. This blog exists as a resource for friends, family, and others who are interested in my progress through the Jesuit process of formation. Every day is its own adventure, and I am happy to have you along with me to share in this. This blog contains my own personal thoughts and should not be taken to speak for the entire Society of Jesus. Feel free to contact me. God bless you!

Addresses Needed for Vow Invites

Dear Friends,

Peace of Christ!  I hope you are well.  Thanks for all of your warm wishes following my news last week.  I am back safe and sound in Oklahoma for a week.  During this week, in addition to down-time and fun with friends/family, I need to collect the addresses for the invites to the vow ceremony.

If you would like an invitation (regardless of whether you are coming), please send me your address in the next 2-3 days.  Please email those promptly at johnroselle@gmail.com

Also, due to the nature of the vow of poverty we will be taking, the Jesuits request that there not be any gifts given.  However, if you would still like to give a gift, let me know, and I will suggest a couple of favorite charities :)

I understand that there is a great likelihood that many of you will not be able to make it (since it is up in St. Paul, MN), but if you any of you are willing and able to be there, it would be a great joy.  The Jesuit vow ceremony is quite dramatic and moving.  There will also be a number of opportunities for meeting my Jesuit brothers/friends/family, and for celebration.  If there is anything I can do to help make the trip more convenient for you (i.e., arranging pick-ups and drop-offs from the airport, carpool, etc.), please don't hesitate to let me know.  Below are links for two hotels from which my brothers and I are pursuing a group rate discount (soon to be established).  They are both nice and less than two miles away from the where the ceremony will be.
